MCRD Graduation Day |
| We made it to MCRD at
about 0730 hrs. and ate breakfast there. The food wasn't that
great but it was no worst that what we had eaten at the IHOP. When
we came into the MCRD they had Marines searching all vehicles. I
had left my duty weapon in the hotel safe. When the Marine looked
inside my truck, he saw my Police I.D. and asked if I had my gun with
me. It told him," No." We talked for a little bit and
my wife had engaged the other Marine in a conversation too. I
asked him if he could accept one of our Police patches and he said
yes. I had some of our Millennium patches and gave him one.
Boy was he excited. Elfida asked if I had another one so she could
give it to the other Marine. His face lit up too when he saw
it. We made their day. When Maiko graduated they didn't
check the vehicles coming on the base, but times have changed.
Anyway, I felt safer knowing they were checking all the vehicles.
This is Charlie Company forming up for their final parade before graduation. The ceremony took about an hour. It was shorter than when Maiko graduated. We had a perfect day. The sun was out, the skies were clear and the temperature was in the mid 70's with a slight breeze. San Diego is a beautiful city to visit. |

Here they come. Everyone of them proud as roosters. |
Carlos is the third one in line. |
After the graduation Carlos walked to where there bags were located. He still hadn't seen his two friends. |
Every graduate had his duffle bag, body bag and back pack ready to go. |
His two friends jumped at him from behind. He was very surprised and extremely happy to see them. Tyler and Tony were going to ride back with Maiko, Amy and Carlos. This would give them a chance to catch up on all the latest gossip in Waco and Midway High School. Of course that meant that Isabelle would be ride back to Texas with us. |
Carlos went to see a friend who was in MRP, so Tyler and Tony took his bags to the truck. |
There's Carlos' mom so proud of her son. |

Isabelle loved all the fountains in San Diego. She must have left a couple of dollars in pennies in the fountains. She wiped us out of pennies. After everyone made a final trip to the base store to buy souvenirs we were ready to drive to Rolling Heights to see my brother, Jose and his wife Lucila. It was suppose to be a two hour drive. We stopped to eat before leaving San Diego and left at about 03:00 PM. Yes!!! We ran into the evening rush hour on Friday afternoon. It took us five hours!!! We were driving at 20 miles an hour. I love Texas highways and their access roads!!! Traffic in California suck!! No wonder they keep shooting each other on the highways. |
